EHX English Muff'n users: What tubes do you use?

I've had an English Muff'N for years and have occasionally gotten it out and used it as a clean boost or to add just a hint of distortion. I've mostly stuck to the stock Y7s as 12AX7s are way to heavy on the distortion (Gain factor of 100 obviously they would be, versus Y7's 45). What tubes do you all use mainly when you aren't trying for overkill distortion on bass? I'm curious how a set of matched 12AU7s would sound as their gain factor is around 20 as I recall.

I use 12au7's, bought mine used and it came with 12ax7's so I thought they were stock. I had mine modded for better bass response (capacitor change), but not really loving the sound of this pedal. Not sure if you would need to change both tubes - I did not experiment much, just replaced both of the tubes and got much more controlled gain so left it at that...
