I'm using an EHX Hot Tubes Nano on keyboard (I use a lot of effects pedals on synth). I don't really dig its dirt on my key bass tones, except at very low gain. I turned the Overdrive knob all the way to minimum and started fiddling with the Tone knob. Around 12:00-1:00 is this beautiful, punchy low-mid boost going on that doesn't sound quite like any EQ I've ever tried. I can get a nice clean-ish boost out of it, too, but it always has that extra color to it. It sounds so good with all of the bass tones I threw at it that I think it could easily be a great, simple always-on pedal for some rigs. I've already recorded with it a couple of times when I want a little more "oomph" without needing precise tone shaping (I have a Boss PQ-3B and EQ-20 for that).

As I understand it, dirt pedals compress your signal. Could that be what's going on here...the Hot Tubes Nano is compressing my signal, even with the gain at minimum? Whatever it is - I LIKE IT!
