Double Bass Electric upright on a Jazz tune...

Sounds just like a fretless BG to me. Is that what you were shooting for? The video suggests differently, but acting is acting.
My acting would barely be considered acting..lol but the creators were going for a real upright sound. I personally would have mixed it differently to make it sound more like an upright. Then again, I would probably do something different on every recording I have ever done if I had the "redo". Thanks for the listen man!

Your playing is great, but I'm confused. Is that you playing the upright in the video? Why didn't you just record that?
Thank you Bob. At the time of recording, the people producing the vid did not have an actual upright and nor do I. I have the BSX upright electric. So, for the vid they rented the upright :)
I would say most "bass players" know the difference but most others do not.

The sound of the DB is more than just whether or not it has a long scale length or not. A big part of the deal is to play with the technique that yields that sound, and knowing what that sounds like so your hands produce it. Judging by how you play in the vid, you're an EB player and the technique is not the same. Most of the big sound comes from your technique, especially the right hand. Pulling without being able to generate a fat sound will not make it quite right, even if you were on an actual DB. It's more than just using the correct instrument.
