Emg gzr to active p - buzz problem

Had the GZR in my mim p bass for the last few months and it is dead quiet but I bought the EMG P (solderless) to try out & I've been getting a lot of noise. Battery is brand new. The buzz goes away when I touch the shielding under the control plate but sound is a little distorted.
I left the ground wire in the crimp that came along with the gzr should I want to Go back to those pu's. I checked all the connections over and over. The buzz is loud when I'm touching the pickups or screws. Doesn't go away when I touch strings or any other metal part.
Any suggestions?

Are you using a TRS output jack, with a battery ground on the ring, system ground on the sleeve, and signal on the tip? should be as in diagram 3 in this file, (unless you have active tone controls too) (the active tone controls look similar, but actually get plugged in slightly differently, one connector on the tone pot goes on upside down on some of the active tone controls

I think so. I'm just following what's on the installation guide: http://www.emgpickups.com/media/productfile/P/_/P_P5_P6_0230-0107A.pdf
BUT I think I've solved the mystery:
On the pickup for the D/G strings the wiring in the diagram shows red, black, white wires followed by white and then black. The ones on mine are wired in reverse: black and then white!
So I tried reversing the connection to the other pickup to match that and the noise is gone! So the arrow which indicates to insert is now on ghe underside of the E/A pickup.
Someone must've messed up in the factory lol!
