Envelope Filter & Fuzz pairing

I currently have the Broughton Audio JoshWah which has a good amount of gain in its own right that you can dial in to throw some dirt on the envelope filter & I also have a Smallsound/Bigsound Team Awesome! Fuzz Machine which has MASSIVE output... so much so that it drowns out my other pedals. I've tried it before & after the JoshWah in my signal chain. If it's before the Joshwah I can't get the filter effect but if it's after I can tease it out a little by using the blend knob on the TA!FM but I feel like the fuzz is too powerful to use in combination with my other pedals which has me looking for other fuzz options sooo I'm curious... what combinations of filter & fuzz do y'all use???

I have two boards with different choices of fuzz and filters and placements, that are subject to change. That is all the fun.

A gated fuzz paired with an envelope filter can be synthtastic. The most responsive pairing I've come across is the Chunk Brown Dog and 00Funk Mk II, but they're no longer made. You can get very similar results with other wet and synthy filters like the Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe or the Moog MF 101 LPF and a gated fuzz though.

The SSBS Mini is exactly what you are looking for. The bias knob at noon brings in some synthy splat but you can run that at a very low level, and No low end loss, envelopes love it. TAFM could do it if you turned clean and fuzz way down but then you'd have to fiddle with knobs to get back to what it does best, slammin fuzz. I've also used a Solidgold Beta overdrive and Grizzly and TC Spark Drive and others but Mini is the most controllable with a variety of sounds.

Fuzz, like all clipping/distortion effects, removes most of the envelope-related dynamics from the signal. With those gone the filter has nothing to work with...
Yup. Envelope filters with either side chain or internal distortion is THE way to go. The FILTER wants to see a wet/distorted signal and the ENVELOPE detector wants to see a dry signal.

Typically, I would just use the Source Audio C4 for fuzz/dirt/OD and envelope filter. It has those as options to engage for preset building, which is pretty dang handy. If it's a preset of just filtering, I may engage some overdrive on EHX Platform or Battalion. Using the SA MWBDP gives crazier tonal options.

My best results are COG Effects Green Tarkin (custom pedal) to EHX Q-Tron (between them is EBS Unichorus). I´m using it to get Bassballs with distortion on kinda sound.

I hear you.. I like the evelope filter after the fuzz but the chopped off square wave fuzz does not have enough dynamics to kick in the auto wah, it sounds more like a subtle phaser or sg. which doesn't sound bad, but a different effect.

The ultimate solution is to have an fx loop like the choromatron has which is on my GAS list.

It doesn't get a ton of love around here, but I really like the EHX Q-Balls with the Distortion engaged. It's pretty basic, but sounds great, and I've had no issues with getting the envelope filter to respond.
