Double Bass Evah Pirazzi Orchestral Issue

Hey all

I just installed a fresh set of Evah Pirazzi Orchestral. I seem to be having an issue with the G string and I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the string itself. My bass was just setup so I know the issue is not with the instrument.

All strings but the G sound and feel awesome. The G doesn't resonate as much, feels stiffer and is harder to bow and sounds scratchy. All strings sound nice and round with a clear fundamental but the G just kind of sounds meh. I had Obligatos on before this set and my G has never felt that way before.

Has anyone had a similar experience with these strings? Maybe the G string needs to be worked in more than the others?

Thanks!

I had an Evah weich G that got strangely bright and harsh sounding. I noticed that the winding was rolling around the core (a problem which many people had with the Obligato low strings). I was able to detune and twist the string to temporarily fix the sound and feel, but pretty soon I needed a new string. You could try rolling the strings between your fingers and see if there is significantly more roll on the G than the others.

I've had that issue with Obligatos before but it's not the same issue I'm having with this Evah G. This one just sounds harsh and has poor bow response. I contacted Pirastro but haven't heard back from them.
