Experiences with Darkglass Alpha Omega into DAW?

Hi all,

I'm wrestling with finding the 'right' tone when playing bass through my Darkglass Alpha Omega into my focusrite interface and recording in my Ableton 9 suite DAW.
It all sounds too noisy / lacking low end imo.

Note: Through my tube amp / cab it sounds FANTASTIC, but I'm struggling to get the same satisfactory result when playing at home.
I use a Fender Aerodyne bass with passive pu's.

Curious about what your darkglass settings / experiences & tips are to get it right..
Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Great,
thanks for the replies @ole Jason & @Ba55Man1ac.
The DSM cab sim is interesting, but will try the cab sim in my DAW first.
Cheers !

This doesn't necessarily do it full justice, but I time-stamped this demo so you can hear the A-B difference of Darkglass dirt with/without a sim.

I have the OCSD, as well as a couple simple LPF/HPF boxes. The latter will work fairly well to get do what you're trying to do, but something like the OCSD is especially nice for the resonance controls and added EQ.

ETA: Even without the resonance controls (i.e. a regular HPF/LPF), I think think it helps a huge amount to have that LPF or Hi-cut. Without it, you can hear how much harmonic content/treble there is just lighting up the upper end of the frequency spectrum. To my ears, that has the perceived effect of lows sounding de-emphasized and too open. Just rolling that off makes the low-mids poke through and punch harder, even if you are tightening up the lows with the HPF...

Another option is to buy yourself a nice mic. My friend took a few years to convince me.

I was always like “yeah, every time you mic us jamming it sounds awesome, but you are great at recording and I am not. I need to be direct at home.”

It’s really not that hard, esp with a supercardiod(very directional) mic.

You already said it sounds awesome through your amp. You don’t have to pick either/or. Try both!
