Extension Cabinet for Markbass CMD 102P Combo

Hi all!!!

I know this has been posted a time ago, but answers are 3 or 5 years old; so I would like to get some recent advice on making this investment.

I recently bought a Markbass CMD 102P Combo and I'm so happy that I was thinking about getting an extension cabinet to complete my gear.

I have 3 options:

- Markbass Standard 104HF 10x4 Front Ported Cabinet
- Markbass Standard 104HR 10x4 Rear Ported Cabinet
- Markbass Standard 151HR 15x1 Rear Ported Cabinet

I tested all 3 in the store, and found really small differences between the 3:

- The 151 has a lot of really defined low end, but lack some mids. It also is rated 400 watts Vs. 800 watts on the 4x10.
- The rear ported 4x10 is more of my taste, it has a really tight sound, nice mids but I would like to know if someone has experienced with it in open space situations and how defined is at high volume.
- The front ported 4x10 has more low end but sounded a bit boomy to my ears, at least at the store where everything started to vibrate.

I play 75% of the time inside a Church with really good acoustics, but with an acoustic drum set and 2 guitar players.

The store design didn't really helped to hear and sense the difference between the 3 cabs because it has glass walls that vibrate a lot when testing, so a bit of your actual experience with any of this cabs would be appreciated.

Regards

Hi, I have the same MarkBass combo and have used it with a Bag End 15, the small ported cab that is so popular. It really kills, I would say that any of the options you listed would be good. I think you might like the oomph of the 15, but for sheer impact (and as you mentioned, midrange flexibility), I doubt you will go wrong with either 4x10 configuration.

If your needing more than that combo can deliver, I'd go with another one of their 210 cabs. Try them both and see which one makes for a better pair. It would be much more portable, and I can't think of a gig I've played where I needed 6 10's. If I need more than my 2 112 cabs, I need PA support. At a large crowded church I only need 112 on stage and to be run through the sub, but not PA. Markbass amps have good power and their cabs are designed well around very sensitive speakers.

If I was to go the 410 route, I'd pull the head from the combo, make a plate to cover the exposed top opening and use just the head and the amp.
