Double Bass Fake F holes? Feedback blockers?

Can someone point me to a TB thread discussing f hole anomaly in this photo? This player was with Wayne the train Hancock in Newport, Ky the other night.

Don’t bother. With the right bass set up well you can play loud enough to kill rats without feedback.

I find that 4 black cotton dress socks do the job just fine (2 per F hole).

i've played some pretty loud places and never needed to put foam behind the tailpiece and cover the F-holes.

I don't know... I couldn't make the show. My guitarist/BL sent me the photo, and i wasn't sure what I was seeing. I've since learned more; see also more TB discussion here:

I play with a great guitarist who uses an f hole cover on his arch top in louder sitatuions. It really works for him. Last show I did with him, he had forgotten to bring it, so he covered the f hole with tape. No feedback. I'd be inclined to try it first and knock it later.

I religiously tape over my f-holes. Allows me to have the tone I want from my stack, and headroom in volume if I need it.
