Hey there,

So a few years ago i had the fearful 12/6 and 15sub cabinets made, and then got distracted with kids and poopie.
I finally got around to playing again this past year, and I'm super unimpressed with the sound - hollow and tinny, and the speakers move a lot, with a little amount of power

I have heard such good things about these cabs, so i imagine I'm the problem

Any input would be valued

Thank you so much

Before going into the cabinets, try each one individually. It's possible that one of the LF drivers is wired backwards OR one of your speaker cables are wired backwards. This will cause your symptoms.

Eliminate the easy and more common things first.

Hey all! So I did do as you suggested and I checked over all my wiring, and although everything was nice and tight, I did have a couple things wired backwards.

And then I spent a little bit of time playing around with stuffing the ports and putting in some insulation and it toghtened up the sound quite a bit

Thanks guys!

Leave the ports alone.

Backwards wiring is the likely cause. Being thorough with troubleshooting beats just trying things every time.

Yes the wiring was backwards. That helped a lot, but cabinet still sounded hollow, just not tinny anymore. So i began experimenting with putting some foam and blocking the ports. And i like the sound im getting now.
It seems that blocking the ports has restricted the airflow as well, whereby my amp at 4 was making the cones fly before i blocked the ports, now they only dance gently

That seems very odd to me. Those cabs were specifically designed to be built in a certain way to have optimum performance, in a ported bass cab. Blocking the ports would seem counterintuitive, although some designs, like Duke's, do allow for this . I wasn't aware that Greenboy included this option in his designs.

Back in the day, Greenie suggested it was possible to partially block the ports to approximate an "old school"/sealed cab response. I don't recall if anyone experimented with it, though.
