Fender Bassman?

I assume this is a simple question. Current model Bassman heads and combos seem to be marketed mostly at guitarists. I get it. Are they really bass amps anymore? If not, is there an era or cutoff for the last time they would have been?

I'm not shopping necessarily, just trying to make some sense of it because it seems like it should be simple. Thanks in advance.

I've always run through a folded horn of 2 X 15"s powered by an Acoustic 370 with an EQ and occasionally supplemented with a LabSeries 100w through 4 X 10".

Like the 4 X 10 aspect and have a Bassman, but prefer the solid state over the tube as my Bassman is setup more for guitar. Lately a 2 X 12" cabinet will be replacing the 4 X 10's.

I know of no changes to the amp other than a rectifier change.

IDK, the 100T and Super Bassman (300T) are pretty far from "guitar" amps.

I believe the Bassman being discussed is basically a Fender Twin amp with 4 X 10" speakers instead of the 2 X 12"'s normally offered. 80-100 watts, tubes, pretty indestructible. SRV and Johnny Winter used them, incredibly loud but always found the 10's to be more feedback prone than I like.

I'm a Luditte, don't know the 100T or the Super Bassman models. Looking them up, the Super was an older unit with 300watts, Fender also had the Super 400.

The bassman amps being discussed are the current models.

The classic 4 x10 Bassman amps were rated at around 45-50 watts, nothing like the power of a Twin or Showman.

I don't think there is anything Retro about the active EQ and overdrive channel on the 100t and Super Bassman (300t).

I concede the point.

MY familiarity limited to Fender's Amps from the 70's and could not tell you if they added the EQ or the Overdrive circuit to the original design. Haven't seen ANY new ones but there is ago of stuff out there I'm unfamiliar with these days.

The OP did say "Current model Bassman". I don't think I read incorrectly although they are now called "Bassman Pro" Bassman Pro | Fender Bass Amplifiers.

I believe Fender has always marketed Bassman Amps toward Bassists. It just so happens that the originals, and the following 10 years worth were found to be better guitar amps than bass amps. The reissue of the original is probably what you are referring to and the exception to my statement above. I doubt if Fender ever expects a bass player to buy one of those to use as a bass amp.
