I for one am really thrilled by the new MIJ series from Fender. The basses look very cool (and relatively affordable) and I'm excited to finally be able to purchase a Mustang in pink with the phase switching on it. But why the lack of hype from Fender about this series? I almost didn't notice the first release until I saw it unexpectedly on the site one day a few months ago. Any ideas as to why they'd say almost nothing about it?

I don't get it. Did Fender Japan stop production at some point in the last few years or did that never happen?
The vintage MIJ brand was a venture with Fender and Japanese guitar companies starting in the 70's who were making strats and strat copies in order to get more shares of the overseas market in Japan. It 'ended' when Fender took over all the shares. Ironically, they were made in the same factory as the copies were, but they're generally regarded as high quality instruments. It's just confusing why they'd not use some of the clout the old Japanese guitars had to boost sales.

Maybe they are using NAMM to really promote and to also introduce more colors or models.

EFFING FENDER... when I try to visit the MIJ link posted above, ( or pretty much any interestig Fender link) from here in Canada - the website automatically redirects us to this USELESS LINK INSTEAD Shop Fender | Electric Guitars, Acoustics, Bass, Amps & More

Yeah, I've noticed before that here in Australia I get redirected to the homepage of the Australian version of their site. Links from the Australian version will work for me, but anything else redirects. I don't think they've thought through how annoying it is to users who are trying to Google a certain model, who see it in the Google search results, but can't then follow the link.

I know they like to display only the models that are available locally, and local prices, but still I don't see why they can't redirect to the equivalent local product page rather than dropping back to the home page.

I was always under the impression that other than a handful distributed by FMIC, the Japan instruments were distributed by a seperate company with no affiliation to FMIC.

Hey, I found a WORKAROUND... at the VERY BOTTOM of the page there is a tiny selector "Change your region" (mine was set by default to International) - I was able to set it to USA. However, if I close the browser and later click on any other US-Fender link anywhere, then I have to do the SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN (IRRITATING, yep!) :)
