So, I recently bought a player series p-bass and it surprisingly has neck dive. When I am playing with a strap, it kinda balances while the neck tends to dive. When I'm seated, the p-bass imitates the last bass I sold because of the neck dive it had. Since my first bass was a Squier Vintage Modified p-bass, which was well balanced as I remember, is there a problem with my bass? Player series basses do actually have that kind of neck dive (anyone with a Player Series p-bass can really help me here)? Or do I forgot my Vintage Modified's feel, combined with the fact that my playing style changed due to the neck dive of that last bass?
Overall, I am truly happy with the sound of it.
Thanks, Dimitris

I've had lightweight Ps with some neck dive. "To horizontal" neck dive, not "to the floor" neck dive, but it's there. You could install lighter tuners?
Exactly, when I have it with a strap, it is not going to the floor. I'm not interested in modifying it right now, I just want to know if it a thing of Player Series basses or it is my bass.. As I have seen in Youtube videos, they have neck dive.
I sold my last bass to get rid of neck dive, though. I used to have some weight on my strap.

Neck dive is easily solved.
Golfer's tape wrapped around the bottom of a strap covered with a seat-belt pad.

As I said, my Squier didn't have neck dive. If P basses generally don't have neck dive, I will return it. I know all the solutions for neck dive, but I sold the last bass to get rid of it! I didn't expect it from Fender. Something strange is that Player Series basses are all sold out and will be available again in July, but the store that I bought mine had a last one (the one I bought!).

Very interesting!!! I got an email from Fender, answering my question about neck dive. This is a part of it:
A bit of neck dive is common on any P-bass, across all series. As you have noted, these guitars are more happy when used with a strap.
The Jazz basses are bit more 'balanced' due to lower weight on neck and offset body shape, this can potentially facilitate a more comfortable experience when played sitting down without a strap.
Mustang basses tend to be significantly lighter and with a shorter 30" scale, this makes the whole balance aspect less noticeable overall.

If the instrument had no neck dive while playing on your leg, half of the weight of the instrument would need to be on the bridge side of the bottom leg cut. That's possible, but then you would not like the weight of the instrument. Just rest your forearm on the bass.

Is it weird that neck dive has never bothered me?

This IS the internet...

Neck dive is yet another thing I never even thought of over decades of bass playing, yet is apparently a big deal online.

Did I have neck heavy basses? Sure! If I liked the sound and playability, I kept playing them. If not, I sold them off to someone who did like the sound and playability.

But hey, we can also ask "what bass should I buy" from folks who have no information about our tastes or skills...

I'm glad I don't work in a music store today, it's got to be brutal.

My Player Precision has zero neck dive.
My Fender MIM Jazz has moderate neck dive.
My CIJ Mustang had terrible neck dive.
My JMJ Mustang has no neck dive, but intentionally chose one of Sweetwater's heavier JMJ's to avoid neck dive.

My EB Big Al was so heavy it caused MY NECK to dive, but its neck did not.

YMMV

I've only had about 15 basses over the years, and about half had neck dive. I'm sure that many here who have owned one or two of everything could offer more insight.
