Fender Rumble 112 cab vs. 100 Combo

The Fender Rumble 100 Combo weighs only 22 lbs. with an amp in it and the Rumble 112 cab with no amp weighs 31 lbs. I understand the same speaker is used in both, which leads me to believe that the cabinet wood makes the difference. Does anyone know if this is true and if the 112 sounds significantly better as a result? Thanks.

That is false. Different drivers. The 12" woofer in the Rumble 112 has a larger motor with a larger voice coil and bigger heavier magnet. Higher wattage handling. Sounds better.

Thanks, Linnin. The guy who answered my Chat inquiry on Fender.com was wrong, then. He said his specs show the same speaker in both.

It is possible that there has been a recent change/upgrade. When the Rumble 112 first came out in 2015 the woofer was different. At any rate both the Rumble 210 and 112 cabinets are manufactured under contract for Fender by Eminence China as are all the Rumble woofers.

It does make a difference. The China made Rumble 112 cabinet is made of denser/heavier plywood than that of the Indonesian manufactured Rumble 100 1x12 combo which uses a higher grade lightweight plywood. The Rumble 112 cabinet also has bracing; a pair of steel side handles, and acoustic treatment that the Rumble 100 combo doesn't have.

One way to be sure about the drivers is to find out the Fender part number. Same number=same part.

In 2014 when the V3 Fender Rumble were announced at Winter NAAM, the Rumble 200 combo and Rumble 115 cabinet had the same woofer because it sounded so good. Even though the Rumble 200 didn't need so robust a woofer it was chosen for it's tone & overall sound quality.

Due to production capacity the Rumble 210 & 112 cabinets would have to wait until the following year to be produced and introduced at 2015 Winter NAMM. At that time the 12" woofers were different.

I own the Rumble 100 and am considering upgrading the speaker. Can anyone tell me the specific specs on the original Chinese Eminence 12". I'm trying to figure out just how much of an improvement the Eminence Basslite S2012 ($94.99 4.1lbs 150 watts) would make.....or should I step up to the Eminence Deltalite II 2512 ($144.99 5.1 lbs 250 watts) . Would the 250 watt rating of the Deltalite be a noticeable improvement in a 100 watt combo? I'm older and the size and weight do matter. Does anyone know the current weight of the original Eminence 12"? Thanks!

I don't know what the weight of the stock Eminence woofer is, but it is light! I don't think you are going to see any weight savings. I modified a Rumble 75 with a Basslite S2012 and it was a substantial upgrade that was both deeper and brighter and due to its efficiency, was louder too.
