So, over the years I've developed a fascination with wood and the different types (especially those used in instruments) and lately it's got me wondering which countries/regions Fender gets their wood from for the Mexican/USA basses. In particular their ash, alder and maple.

I found a thread on it from 2008 with a quote from the Fender manual which states their ash, alder and maple woods come from the US and Canada. Is this still the case today? I can't seem to find much info on it online.

Don't know exactly where Fender sources its timber these days. I would imagine that – to the extent it doesn't violate CITES – such disclosure constitutes exposing a trade secret. However, I do know that a lot of swamp ash used in the U.S. comes from Louisiana and Mississippi. I also recall that Mike Eldred – who once ran Fender's Custom Shop – said that ash goes by many different names depending on which mill is providing it, but that ultimately, "Ash is ash."

Interesting. Thanks for the info!
