Just wanted to share my excitement for finally most likely soon starting to play bass in a band once again.

I have not played bass in a regular band for 4 years or so.

I have solo projects and have/had a couple of duo projects where my main assignment is/was not playing bass in particular, and not regular bands which I miss much playing in.

I live in a small town, so finding people in the near perimeter who are interested in playing the kind of music I am interested in is hard.

However I finally took the initiative to at least try looking for some musicians who would interested in playing what I have in mind, which is dark atmospheric experimental music with inspiration from bands such as Earth, Sunn O))), Goodspeed You! Black Emperor and to some degree Low and Coil, as well as some of the more recent tracks I made with my own drone/ambient/noise project: Jacob Læby

So far I already found a guitarist who is interested, and I only started looking/put up adds yesterday.

So thrilled to get stating.

Yes!

Just got an answer back from a bass player I have had the pleasure of working with years ago, and he is willing to get into the project as well.

And he got a drummer too he is playing together with in another contelation that would be interested as well, a guy I have played with before too, who's main instrument used to be guitar, and who also has access to a rehearsal space with recording facilities.

So all in all that seems to be perfect.

We are going to get together soon and jam to see if it will work.

Looks like we are going to be a drummer, 2 bass players and a guitar player then.

Can't wait to get started!

It is settled, Thursday next week, the 2nd of February me, the other bass player and the drummer will get together to see how it works out in the drummers rehearsal room/studio place.

We decided to see how this constellation works out at first, and then maybe have the guitarist join in at a later point should we find we need one.

All of us know how to play guitar as well, so it's also an option that one of us will play guitar or baritone for some tracks.

I have some riffs and ideas, even an almost finished song we can work on, and the other bass player says he has some ideas as well we can have a look on and work on as well, though we decided this first time will primarily be jamming and finding each other musically.

So exited! :bassist:

I will update with sound snips should we get something worthwhile down while jamming.

Congrats. Sounds like you're a go getter. Once you get your people simply set a goal with a deadline. Whether that's a gig or recording some songs. This gig can be a garage show to some friends, doesn't matter.
Speaking from a lot of experience here: you can have tons of talent, but if you put together a group without some type of goal with a deadline, it will be hard to move forward. Put yourself out there. Sounds like you're already on your way. Good luck.

It's time soon for our first rehearsal. :bassist:

The other bass player will pick me up in just about half an hour, help me carry my equipment and transport it to the rehearsal space.

So exited on how it is going to turn out. :hyper:

Will post an update on how it went when I return from rehearsal.

Went surprisingly well. :bassist:

The other bass player who also plays guitar had decided to go for guitar instead though, so now we are a more classic power trio.

I had been working on some riffs that worked well together, so we decided to work on those.

The drummer and guitarist added their parts to my riffs, and we got a preliminary form down as well, where the guitarist came up with a nice outro riff.

There was one minor issue though, which I hope will be resolved:

The drummer who is more into classic metal and a bit more musical conservative than me and the guitarist, wasn't really familiar with this particular type of music though and had a bit of a hard time understanding the concept of making songs based on moods and textures with minimal evolution in the song structure other than variations of the same basic riff.

He liked the riffs of the song we put together but just didn't seem to think that was enough to make up a song.

He expressed a concern that this seemed to him like a too easy or cheap way of creating songs.

He wasn't rejecting the idea though and was open for trying it out.

He also promised to do some research listening up on some Sunn O))), OM and Earth.

So hope me and the guitarist manage to get him convinced on our concept ;)

The guitarist who knows the drummer better than me assured me that it was most likely just a case of the drummer not being familiar with the type of music we plan to make, and probably just needed some more specific examples of how other bands has handled this approach to create music to get the idea and feel of it.

Conclusion:

Beside that, as I said, it worked out surprisingly well.

We had a nice time working together, and their was no major issues neither personality wise or musical.

Seemed like we fairly easy caught and locked into each others playing.

All in all a quite constructive first time rehearsal. :hyper:

We also agreed on a band name which will be Tauon (as the elementary particle).
