Finger pain after changing Bass

Hi all, I play mostly with the bass quite high, the bottom of the Bass on my belt. Occasionally, one/two songs or at the end of the set, with the Bass low. Top of the Bass on or below my belt.
Two weeks I changed from a Yamaha BB414 to a Mexican standard Pbass.
Absolutely love the bass. Everything. Just really happy with it.
However, I’m having pain in my index fretting finger in the knuckle behind my nail. I’ve played around with the strap length, the angle of the neck, different strap. I can’t think of anything else.
Any ideas what it could be or how to stop it?

Many thanks in advance!!!!

Try splitting the difference between your two different bass heights.

But it may have nothing to do with it. I have a sore knuckle on my middle finger, but it's not due to playing bass. But, do look at your hand, wrist and finger positions, check your fretting pressure, your thumb - anything to rule out a technique flaw.

I don't think it's the P-bass either.

Agreed on all points. It's really hard to think of how anything about either the bass or your technique would cause pain in that one joint but nowhere else. And wearing your bass too high usually means that if you're playing fingerstyle, you're plucking with a severely bent wrist, whereas wearing your bass too low usually means that you're fretting with a severely bent wrist -- either of which can easily lead to injury.

Fretting pressure is interesting and something I hadn’t thought of. The Pbass still has the factory installed strings on and the Yamaha strings were fairly old and worn in so I wonder if it could be something as simple as that?
