Hello,

I'm replacing the knobs on an electric bass, and noticed that the finish has chipped where the potentiometers poke through. It won't be visible under the knobs, so I'm mostly interested in knowing if this is something that can lead to bigger issues. Do I need to stabilize this in any way, or is this just what things look like under knobs? Would a rubber washer, masking tape, or something else help?

If you're just changing the knobs why did you remove the pots?

As to the finish issue, most likely, there should not be a problem (what kind of finish is it - what brand/model bass do you have?). A dab of clear nail polish wouldn't hurt (depending on the kind of finish is on the bass - again, what brand/model bass do you have?).

I read they use a poly finish, so common acrylic nail polish can be used to fill in those areas to protect/secure them. You could try and color match the area but as they are under the knobs I wouldn't bother with that.

It looks to me like they'ii even be under the washer for the pot. If that's the case I wouldn't bother trying to repair it.

How about advising on the fit issues you're having. I'm sure others that build from parts would like the heads up.
