first equipment

I would like to hear what your first bass and amp was. mine was an eko violin bass and an ampeg sb-12 amp. still have the amp. traded the eko in for a Gibson eb-3.eventually got a fender dual showman.what a difference.

I literally do not know. I was a teenager and saw a bass in a store and thought I'd like to try playing, so I saved up some money and bought it. It was a hobby for a few months or a year then sat and collected dust, until years later it got stolen and wasn't replaced until I was 38, nearly 20 years later. All I remember now is that it was black and had 4 strings. Couldn't tell you the brand or even if it was a P or a J or what. The amp was also black and that's about all I remember about that too.

When I did pick up bass again, I got a silver Ibanez Gio over CL and a small Ibanez practice amp to go with it (from a different seller). I no longer have either, sold them to upgrade.

Sparkle blue Rogue PJ, halfway paid for with a gift card shortly after christmas, played through a Roland MicroCube guitar amp I'd received as a birthday present the previous year.

The idea was to determine whether I had any interest in playing bass whatsoever while paying the least amount of money. It was perhaps an ill-thought-out plan, as I ended up loving bass but hating *that* bass and hastened to replace it with my SUB a year later.

After numerous attempts to sell, pawn, or trade the Rogue (GC offered to take it off my hands if I paid them $20), I donated it to my school's music production class, where it can live out its days teaching other little nooblets a thing or two about bass bassics instead of uglying up my closet with its weird spear headstock.

First bass is the Squier Affinity J Bass which I still have and love. First amp was one of these Behringer amps, which look like they came from some kind of German postmodern nightmare, or an episode of Star Trek. My son uses it now for a vocal amp. Replaced with a $50 Crate purchased from a guy living over top of a pop-up church in a seedy part of town, and then by a shiny new Rumble 200.

The bass was a Japanese P Bass knock off from back in the day (around 1966) when Japanese stuff was pretty crappy. It had a set of flats on it that tore my fingers to shreds. The first amp I used with it was a Silvertone twin 12 (the one that the head stowed away in the back of the cab) soon to be replaced by a 50 watt Fender Bassman with a 2 12 cab. Both were pretty anemic. I wish I still had that twin 12 amp. Those things are bringing some serious bucks these days and they sounded great for guitar. I traded the bass for a bag of Columbian , sold the Bassman to pay damages for a car wreck (my dads '66 Charger) and lost the Silvertone to some nefarious people that had possession of it when I got locked up for a month in New York City in 1971. Picked up an acoustic 12 string a couple of years after that and a Kappa electric 6 string a year or so later. Played that and it's replacements in bands for years and didn't get back into bass until 2003. Still pull the old 12 string out once in a while but except to show someone how to play something , I haven't touched a 6 string in years.

I still have my PV Lynx 110 amp. It won't die. It's a great little practice amp for what it is. Also use it for special events at Church.

As for the bass, I gave that away. It was a white lower end Fender PJ 4-string. I don't recall what it was exactly, but the string spacing was a little wide for my liking, so I replaced it with a Warmoth build and it became just an extra. - At the time I wasn't cool enough to need a backup bass... I guess I mostly kept it around b/c a buddy of mine liked it as much as I disliked it. He ended up moving to Maryland and I sent the bass with him. Good times...

The first bass I played was a "Matador" brand short-scale my dad bought on a whim, which I played through my Ampeg Gemini I guitar amp. He went through a period of getting a little bit serious about playing and upgraded to a Cortez J-bass copy, and then got a Peavey T-40 and a Peavey TKO bass amp. That was the first actual bass amp that we had, but technically they belonged to my father, although he gave up bass pretty soon after that and I ended up with effectively sole possession of them. The first bass and amp I bought for myself were a Peavey Mark III Bass head with a homemade folded horn cab with a Black Widow in it, and a Yamaha BB-1600, but I had been playing bass for several years by that point.

A Granada EB3 copy (Matsumoku made)
Garent Stencil Bass amp (Tube)

Still have both, still use the bass sometimes--but I am enjoying fretless os much it gets the lion's share of bass playing time.
Deciding whether to replace the two prong plug on the amp, sell it, or both.

It's a real nice amp--but bigger than I need...
