Beyond the Yellow Brick Road
hi,

need to patch up / fill a crack in an ebony fingerboard. read online that ebony dust and super glue would do the trick. so does one mix the glue and ebony dust together and then apply that 'paste' to the fingerboard? or does one put the ebony dust in the crack and then fill it with the super glue?

if you have any tricks, tips, or techniques to pass along, i'd appreciate it. thanks! :)

I put dust in the crack, then superglue. If you mix dust and superglue it will cure in seconds. There’s no time to apply the paste.
so fill crack with ebony dust and apply glue.

i'm sure some sanding will be involved to knock the super glue down. any suggestions on grit? definitely don't want to sand down the radius of the fingerboard. should i go light?

Just received my package from stewmac (super glue tinted black and hopefully enough ebony to grind to dust). Any last tips or tricks of the trade before I get to it? Was planning to start small first to see if I don’t mess things up. Thanks for the info and help!

How did this work out?

In case anyone interested...
The above idea of filling the crack with dust (dry)...first... then wicking in CA...?
... works well...
but ONLY with THIN viscosity CA glue.
If using the "medium" stuff $tewMac sells....
I would build in thin layers, glue first... then dust.
