Flatwounds for a short scale

I'm looking for maximum fundamental, boom, and limited highs. Imagine very old dead flats and I want that, but I need to buy them new.

It's going on a modified squire bronco short scale. What would you recommend? I was thinking LaBella deep talking flats.....

I have D'addario Half-Rounds on my Bronco and Jag SS. Lovely playability on the Bronco. Very good on the Jag. They are as close to a flat as you can get without being a flat. I play the Bronco all the time.

And D'addario Black tapes on my Mikro currently.

I like the same tone as you and those give me that.

Labella LTF's on my RBX170. (well..o.k. that's a long scale..but anyway..). These strings are pretty good on a shorty too.

I never like Chromes on a shortscale...for a number of reasons, one being they feel cable-esque.

I did not like regular strength Labella flats (DTF) on any short I own. but the LTF's are great.

Unfortunately no flatwounds are going to sound like that out of the packet, ive tried a lot of flatwounds and they have all required a couple of weeks or more to lose that initial brightness.
For the tone you are going for I would recommend GHS flatwounds , Labella are good flats but despite being known for old school thump (which they can do) they are actually pretty articulate sounding flats (at least in the FX/FL gauges)

My experience, too. You'll need to give whatever strings you get time to mellow, but GHS flats will get to the sound you're describing better than, say, La Bellas (at least the light gauges ^); they have quite a bit going on in the upper mids. The GHS are all about a rich fundamental and juicy low mids. Like I said, yummy.

What's the playability/feel/tension like on those on a shortscale?
To my tastes, perfect. They're supple but not at all floppy, and they feel (and sound) well balanced from string to string. Don't worry about the numbers--they're a solid and comfy set of strings (under both hands).

I'll go in with the others who recommended GHS Precision Flats. Those are my current goto flatwounds for a classic flatwound sound regardless of scale length.

I'd also recommend GHS Pressurewounds. Those work extremely well for a short-scale bass. They sound pretty much broken in right out of the box and have plenty of fundamental plus a whole lot more without sounding bright or new at all. Highly recommended and (IMO) one of the best, if not the best string choices for a short-scale.
