After all this time and money, class ab just sounds better, feels better and punches through a mix at lower volumes. I hate moving heavy amps these days but, class d is not there yet. Otherwise, there wouldn't be a new, better power section every 6 months.

Maybe at really low volume but why chance it?! I'm sure it says '4-ohm minimum' on the amp. I wouldn't do it.

Why would anyone want to do this for? I mean, what is the point? The specs data on the back of the amp are there for you to take seriously. If you're "lucky" (I personally don't believe in 'luck' per se, the thermal breaker will save the amp and shut it down before it's damaged.. If not, then you've a expensive repair to deal with. You don't want to do this.

Why? because there are always going to be people why think they are smarter than, and understand a product better than those who designed it. This is the reason why when designing a product for the masses, we have to consider what MIGHT happen from people who can't follow direction insist on coloring outside the lines, and insure that it won't catch fire or pose an undue hazard to those who might benefit most from Charles Darwin's theories. That's one of the major reasons UL exists.

Others MMV, but this has been my experience. Not that I've gone out and tried a plethora of class D offerings, but once you start increasing the power (1000 watts plus) the size goes up, so why not just use a GK head? I'd like to try a PV mM - the Warwick LWA1000 came pretty close, but nothing else I've tried seems to reproduce transients like the other classes of amps.
Just checking. I don't even like gk amps, just the power amp sections. I've been using lead sled bass amps as power amps lately. Love them.
Now this is interesting to me. Are you powering subs or mids/highs with them? What is in your rack right now? My church's theater employs sixteen Mackie 900w 18" subs - older 1801SW's or something like that, so they are all class A/B. I have not compared them to any class D offerings because we haven't purchased any newer equipment in years. And since I don't go out shopping for it, I'm uninformed as far as PA stuff goes.

Your reasons for switching to and from any class of amp is certainly your own business, and I won't be the one to chastise you for your preference. However, I am curious which amplifiers you have tried that contain the exact same preamp, and only the power amp section has been changed? Of those, which have you used test equipment on to determine that what your ears are hearing is actually a difference in the power amp section alone?

I find I like a lot of amps that have power sections other than class D, not because I have a bias towards class D, but because I'm much more familiar with the tones and bands associated with the older technology. It's easy for your brain to create a confirmation bias (the tendency to interpret new evidence as confirmation of one's existing beliefs or theories).
