Hey guys, I’m wanting to buy a GK 700rb ii bass head. I own a GK GLX gold 4/10 bass cabinet, and I was wondering if the head would work with it? Would any 4/10 8ohm cab work?
Basically any head goes with any cab, with rare exceptions. So if you had a 2 ohm cab and a 4 ohm head, that wouldn't work. And it's not advisable to have a head with way more power than the cab can take.
In this case, the 700RB could definitely damage the glx, BUT, if you are sensible about volume and EQ you will probably be fine.
The 700rb ii is a very powerful amp. I just got one and woah. Go easy on your GLX, which is nice but entry level and not as robust as pro level cabs.
But don’t hesitate to get the amp. You can be sensible with the volume and bass knob — and upgrade to a new cab down the road.
The 700 is a great head. I’ve been playing bass for 29 years, and just picked one up as my ideal “large gig” amp to compliment my 400RB “small gig” amp.
Thanks guys! So I have been using a mesa boogie 400plus with the GK GLX cab, and have never had a problem. With the 400plus I’ve never really gone past 3 on the master volume or the chanel volume. If I treat the GK 700rb the same way, I should be fine, right?
According to the interwebs, the GLX 410 is an 8 ohm cab that handles 400W RMS. The 700RBii only puts out 320 watts to the main output at 8 ohms, so I'm a little confused as to why the 700RBii would put the GLX in any danger.
Numbers on volume knobs are meaningless. You just have to listen to the cab. if you don't play any louder than you are now, you should theoretically be fine.
