I think my question has been addressed before – but I am still not clear.

I just looked at the spec's of my new MB112 combo and was wondering if I really need the slave MBP112 amp (for larger venues) vs. just using getting a second MB112 combo. Most places are sold out of the MBP112 right now - and I can get a deep discount on second MB112 combo.

My questions are:

1. Would a second MB112 do the same as the "chain" out MBP amp?
2. The "chain" out XLR is post eq. Probably not a good way?
3. The XLR DI has a pre and post eq switch. Maybe this way using pre eq?
4. Then if I had to run the whole deal into a house PA, could the XLR of the 2nd MB112 combo be used?

Why I am even considering this is that I can get the MB112 about same price as the MBP112 slave. AND- that would give me 2 combo amps in case one crapped out.

Hope you can set me straight on this so I don't have to reinvent the wheel. If the MBP112 slave is the way to go - I will just do that (when the dealers get them in again). In meantime I still have my old large/heavy amps I can use if needed.

Thanks

1. No you can't use a 2nd combo because the combo does not have a 'chain input'.
2. The powered cab relies heavily on the EQ/voicing of the combo amp.
3. The DI will not drive the powered cabs.
4. Moot point as you won't be using two combo amps :) You will use the DI out from the combo to go the PA.

Basically, the XLR DI and the XLR Chain Out are two seperate things that are not interchangeable.

Very strange that nobody has these in stock though, it's almost like they are discontinued. If you are in South Carolina you can come get mine :)

Actually I think I've seen that very combo stack somewhere on TB that you're talking about. It came up a while back. There is a way to do it but you'll have to find the thread. Did you check Amazon? I found a 112 powered speaker available there, and they offer free shipping if you're a prime member. Also eBay might have them and shipping is reasonable.

Probably me, I've got the combo and two powered cabs.

Hi alaskaleftybass:

On Amazon I only see the 12" powered MBP112 cab with $80 shipping (no prime) from vendor I have never heard of. All the GK recommended sellers are out of stock. I have some free money at Musicansfriend and was hoping they would be getting them in. At this time, they are not sure if they will ever carry these again. Have call into GK. Not sure what is going on.

If you call them, I’d sure like to know what’s up with them.

Per GK email:

""The 112MBP have been out of stock for quite a while as we had to locate a new supplier for some of the components. The materials are due to arrive in approx. 30 days and all dealers that have them on order will receive them then. - Jason -Gk"
