(If you don't want all the background, skip ahead to the TL;DR.)
I pulled the trigger on a used Fender Kingman V2 ABG. I'd been gassing for a while on getting one of these, as I wanted a short scale ABG, to match my shorty Jaguar. (Don't bother telling me I don't need an ABG, I have one that I use a lot, and this will be an upgrade in sound, and an alignment in scale length.) So, it seemed that just when I decided I wanted one, there was a big shortage of these things. My local brick and mortar (Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center, Amazon, GC, MF, even Fender were out of the new ones, and most of the used ones I found online, when you factored in shipping and tax, would cost as much as new...
Then last Thursday, I saw one pop up on GC's used site. After reading all sorts of horror stories about GC clerks listing things at lower prices to then pick them up for themselves, and other such shenanigans, I decided to just pull the trigger. It did come off the used listings (good sign), and a nebulous status change or two, but it didn't budge out of their store and into UPS's hands until today. There's now 14.6 pounds of box and bass making it's way to my local GC.
Depending on how fast things move, I'll be picking it up later this week.
TL;DR: I've paid for the bass already, on my credit card. Is there much sense in testing it out at the store vs. taking it home and running it through the paces in the comfort of my home, with my gear, and tools?
