Genz Benz Neox-112T replacement woofer

Hi all. A few months ago I bought a used Genz Benz Neox-112T cabinet for my new Sunday night worship gig. I've been liking it a lot, but you have to realize that I'm no bass connoisseur so I don't have a lot of experience with different cabs. More recently I bought a 1999 Godin A4 (piezo only) and when I played it through the Neox I noticed a nasty sound when the bass slider on the EQ was pushed up past half way. So tonight I took the woofer out to see what was going on and I discovered that the original driver had been replaced with an Eminence Alpha 12A (I'm pretty sure it was an Alpha but I was in a hurry to get it back together). I think the driver is okay, it doesn't rub and sounds fine except when the bass slider is up too high.

Two questions came to mind. Would I substantially improve the sound by replacing the woofer with an original (or equivalent). If so, what should I use, since Genz Benz is in mothballs? The Alpha 12A is only a 150 watt driver so it restricts what the cabinet is capable of, but I really only use it as a monitor. On the other hand, the proper driver wouldn't distort as easily. I guess a Neo magnet would reduce the weight some, which would be good fo this old man's back. But they are definitely more expensive, which is a serious consideration for a non-paying enterprise. Any ideas? Thanks.

It's better than the Alpha, also a lot heavier and I do not know offhand if the tuning would be close. The mid voicing would be kind of dark and the sensitivity should end up lower with the Delta as well.

It will have to do until finances allow me to buy the proper driver. I compared the weight of the Delta-12A with the Deltalite II 25-12, wow, 7.1 pounds difference. No wonder the cabinet felt heavy when I got it. I never bothered to weigh it, but now I know that just the weight difference will be worth changing the driver, not to mention the sound. I still amazed the a forum like this can put you in touch with some of the smartest people in the business. Thanks all!

It's about time for the thrilling conclusion to this thread. Agedhorse fixed me up with the correct woofer and it's great. The difference in weight alone is worth the cost, being the achy old man that I've turned into. But the sound is improved as well. although I can't put my finger on exactly what has changed. It's subtle, but it's there. The original woofer was a Delta-12LFA, which probably wasn't a horrible substitute, but it's real heavy. It's sitting on the shelf now, along with a bunch of other orphan drivers.

Thanks to all for your suggestions, and especially the Agedhorse for his excellent service.
