Genz Benz Shuttle - Squealing Pots

Hi, everyone.

I've done a search and nothing has shown up particular to what I'm asking. My Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 has been squealing a bit recently. I've been away in Japan for about 3 years, so it hasn't had any play since then. Could that be part of the issue? Basically, both the mid knobs ("Mid" and "Mid Freq") under the parametric EQ section seem to squeal and make all sorts of strange noises when I turn them. It's not all the time, and if I don't touch them, they're fine. It seems to be when they're turned past about 2 o'clock that they start playing up. I've tried the mute button, the gain and the tube preamp volume knobs. None of those alter the sound, so I guess it's happening after the preamp. It also does seem to be concentrated on those two controls on the mids section. The master volume does, of course, affect the volume of the squealing.

I know there are some GB people around, like Aged Horse. If anyone could chime in with some words of advice I'd be very glad. Long time player, who has never fiddled with amps before.

Cheers,
Shaun

Are you in the US/Canada? PM me and I can get that taken care of for you easily. If not, I can support any Fender Electronics authorized service center who is willing to work on it.

Thanks for the reply, mate. Unfortunately not, I'm in New Zealand. If it's something simple, I'm more than happy to do it myself. If it requires a particular level of expertise, I guess I'll be taking it in to a shop.

It will likely need some parts, but there are some specific tests that are needed to be done as the causes of this problem are very easy to misdiagnose and screw up.

If you can find a Fender Electronics authorized service center willing to work on it, I am authorized by FMIC/KMC (former and current brand owners) to support them at the factory level. I may also be able to support a Mesa authorized service center that might be willing to work on it, but will need to get permission first.
