I am in process of finding the right gig bag for a new bass.

One consideration is that I am 6'5" and some of the backpack-style configurations mean the headstock is WAY up in the air in prime doorway-smacking territory.

Which gig bags offer the flexibility of switching up the shoulder straps so that the bass hangs at more of a diagonal? (excluding the Gigblade). Would love everyone's thoughts. Thanks!

The Gator Pro-Go has shoulder straps that fasten with carabiners at the top and bottom, which at least in theory allows you to use just one of the two shoulder straps diagonally. Some of the Warwick Rock Bag gig bags have this system as well.

That said, I would exercise some care. Using only one strap doubles the weight on the hooks, and I've heard stories that the ones on the Gator aren't really that strong, and tend to deform when overloaded. If the hooks should break, you risk damage to your bass. Many manufacturers avoid this system because of that risk, and some, like Mono, even use rivets as extra security against breakage.

Also, in my personal opinion, it's not the best or most comfortable way to carry a full size bass, especially if you bring a lot of extra stuff in the pockets of the bag as well. A single strap means double weight on your shoulder, and it's going to get uncomfortable very quickly. In addition the bass tends to slide around a lot, since there is no second strap to stabilize the load. I have a travel bass with just such a gig bag, and the only reason it works reasonably well is because the bass is small and light. I would hate to try it with one of my regular basses.
