GK MB112: Blue Light, No sound?

Hi everyone,
In late January I purchased a GK MB112 II online from the Guitar Center used gear page. I've been going direct for all my gigs recently so I didn't try it out until today.

The amp turns on and the light goes from red to blue. When I try to play through it, nothing comes out. After about five minutes of messing with the settings, some super distorted notes suddenly came through. I turned it off and plugged it in to another outlet and couldn't get any sound to come out again.

Any suggestions for what I might be able to do? I'm thinking that I won't be able to get any help from Guitar Center because because it's been about 80 days since I ordered it. I wish I had tested it out earlier though, because it seems that it must've came to me broken.

Yeah, neither GC or GK would be obligated to help you in any way. If you have any electrical knowledge you can open it up and see if anything looks unusual. Barring any knowledge, you're best to get it to a good tech to have a look. I stress good because more and more often there's posts on TB of techs that couldn't fix problems. Call GK and request an authorized service center close to you.

Allegedly, if there's a major power issue/ internal amp issue, the blue light should stay red and not turn blue. That's promising. I would not try to open or fix it yourself, you have a much great chance of making it worse than you do of fixing it.

Thanks for the advice, guys! I have some electronics experience but never worked on amps before. I'm gonna take in to Music & Arts tomorrow; they have a tech that they work with. The nearest certified service center is over an hour away. I've been reading previous threads on similar issues and maybe I should just open it up to make sure it's not stuffed with candy:laugh:

I wish I cracked open one of my amps and it was stuffed with Smarties and Cadbury Crème Eggs. I'd even settle for their Halloween offshoot, Scream Eggs. drool The amp would smell good when it got warm too!

UPDATE: Finally got a call back with an estimate.. turns out that the speaker is blown. Would cost $255 for the repair. That's what I paid for the amp to begin with. Since I'm handy enough with a soldering iron I think I'm just gonna replace it myself to save both time and money. Thinking of using an Eminence Beta 12a. Any thoughts, tips, or advice is appreciated!

1) I believe you need a 4 ohm speaker.

2) You can get the proper speaker from GK for around $100
