Going from 45-100 to 45-105 on yammybb434

So my bb434 came with 45-100 strings and i wanna bump up to a more familiar 45-105. Will my 105 fit in the low e nut slot without modification? Asking specifically for owners of the bb434 as i know all basses can be different. Change would be from the stock ddario exl 45-100 to ddario nyxl 45-105

The only thing I've ever had a problem with scaling up on strings was going to roto 88s. Low e on that set was 110, and I had to filed a nut a little bit.

You may or may not need to adjust your truss rod, there will be a little difference in relief, it may or may not be enough to notice

Most manufacturers are going to cut the nut slots just a bit wide just to accommodate string gage changes, provided it's not a huge change in sizes, say if you wanted to change this to B through D tuning, with a 125 to 135 now needing to fit in the nut intended for the 95 to 105 range.

Of course, if the action is where you want it, measure the unfretted gap of the bottom of the 100 and the top of the first fret, then repeat once you seat the 105. I doubt any difference would amount to much unless OCD is going to claim you soon.

I switch basses between 100 and 105....and I think I might actually like the 40 to 100 DR HiBeams..
Though all my other basses are 45 to 105.....
I might try them on another bass
They have to be on my MIJ Geddy as the neck is so thin.

A friend of mine will only use the lighter guages now.....Maybe he is onto something......Age related? Yes

Even if works fine (which is probably the case here) be aware that the nut slots will most likely benefit from being filed slightly lower. The nut slots are rarely 100% optimal with factory setups, even from a TOP quality manufacturer like Yamaha. Those last fractions of a millimeter can make the difference between a good instrument and a truly GREAT instrument. And these Yamaha BB certainly have the potential to be GREAT instruments with a good setup. Nothing else in the same price range comes even close IMO.

might need a bit, a setup after switching to other strings is a good thing. you also might want to lower a bit the thicker A and E strings.
Sorry. Im asking for personal experience. Have you made this change in talking about or are you assuming? Im trying to get insight from the ones that have done exactly what ive done with what i have so i can know what to be ready for

These are assumptions and predictions. In looking for the tried and true experience from people who have done what i want to do with exactly what i have. Because i dont want to file nuts, or pay for a setup. It was setup from the factory perfect and its brand new so id like to make as little amount of changes as possible. If that means just keeping the stock strings and not adding the ones i want, i rather do that.

frankly I don't recall. I mean, yeah, I surely did swap 100-45s to 105-45 on a Yamaha bass, but don't recall if it needed a bit of truss rod turn. you'll see if you'll need it: there will be a little too much string travel like on frets 7-12. if you're not sure, how much neck relief is too much or when the saddles or nut are too high, you can either try and learn or bring the bass and a pack of new strings to a reputable guitar tech, a pro setup is a very nice starting point.

It seems that you are assuming all BB434’s are made to exact tolerances. They are not.
Even the best QC cannot account for variance of wood density or truss rod tension.
It’s unlikely that you’ll have an issue, but certainly not guaranteed, regardless of other people’s experiences.
