I just strung my J bass up with some TI's after having some Kalium strings on it for a while. Oddly enough the TI's feel stiffer than the Kalium strings. The sound improvement for my personal tastes is huge. As much as I liked the feel of the Kalium strings, I just can't stand the tone they gave my J bass. I might try them on my Ric though. I had put off buying the TI's for a long time because of the cost, but my wonderful wife bought me a set for Xmas. It feels good to be back in the TI fold!

Got the TI's on my Fender '62AVRI P bass and I have been gigging wth them for about 18 months. I love them. Like em better than my Labella flats on the Fender '62 Jazz. Great tone and feel, consistent tone through out and I use it in Pink Floyd band. Always delivers. Just wipe em down after your done!

Specifically how would you characterize that "sound improvement"? What exactly do you mean? What specifically about the Kaliums tone can't you stand, and why?

The TI's offer more perceived output with stronger mids and an overall thicker vibe. The Kalium's on this particular bass had too much high end clank and not enough of everything else. I think the Kaliums would be great on my Ric. You kind of look for that trebly clank with Ric's but it definitely didn't serve the J bass very well for what I am looking for. YMMV and all that. The Kalium strings did have a better finger feel than the TI's though, more flexible.

I'd disagree. Strings are strings, flat wound or round, or tape, or half round, they all do the same thing. People compare different strings all the time. And the title says exactly what the thread is about; me liking TI's more than the Kaliums on my J bass. There was nothing wrong with the K's, they just didn't suit that particular bass. I haven't had the chance to swap the K's onto my Ric yet but I'm sure they would be a perfect compliment for what I'm looking to get out of that bass.
