Good Digital Media Player (Mp3 & better etc.)...?

Have you considered a cheap Android smart phone? I use this one:

Verizon Wireless Prepaid - LG Optimus Exceed 2 No-Contract Cell Phone - Black

Love it. I put a 64gb SD card in it so I've got plenty of storage. Just drag/drop your MP3's to it, or hook it to wifi and use Spotify or Google Play. I use the $10/month plan at Google Play so I can download unlimited music to the phone for offline listenting.

I have a Sansa Fuze, the older version, looks like this:

Mine's a bit worn out, but still functional. While these days I use my phone for when I need an mp3 player, having a separate mp3 player with good features is actually a good thing to have. I can load mine with music and plug it into a stereo/PA/car and still have your phone available for calls/texts without interrupting the music.

Fiio X5 - $300

Fiio X1 - $100

I recommend the X1.
It plays any format available,
up to 24/96 wavs.

Battery life is excellent.
HiFi sound
Plenty of power to drive studio phones
Dedicated line out
Durable build quality.
Intuitive buttons and menu.

The X5 has more features than the X1 but I don't consider it worth the extra 2 bills.

Did OP end up getting something? The Fiio players are pretty popular at headfi.

Your phone?

Exactly. The tiny computer with access to all of human knowledge that I carry around in my pocket makes a great media player.

I imagine he's talking about something with a high quality DAC. Some people seek out separate players for various reasons but the main one being that music can sound better than it does from a phone, though some phones have better sound quality than others.
