Hi everyone

I’m planning a trip to LA soon and I want to take some bass lessons while I am there. I have already been in touch with a few people but getting players to be available for lessons can be very difficult.

I’ve already tried all the LA bass players I can think and so I’m hoping some of you on this forum might be able to suggest some other bass players that I hadn’t thought of. The ones I have already contacted are

Hadrien Feraud
Tim Lefebvre
Chris Chaney
Sean Hurley
Andrew Gouché
Janek Gwizdala
Joe Cleveland
Robert Lewis
Daniel Aged

From that list you can get an idea of the type of players I like. Can any of you think of any other suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

It's tough because a lot of players at this level are on the road more often than not, and some simply don't teach at all, because they're just too busy or aren't interested. Getting in touch with them is also a "who you know" game which can be a little daunting.

If I was in LA and didn't really know anybody, I'd check out a few nights at the Baked Potato Jazz club. A lot of heavyweights play there. It's a small venue so you can easily approach some of the musicians to ask if they ever teach. In the next few weeks, Travis Carlton will be there, along with Jimmy Earl (Jimmy Kimmel Band), Jimmy Haslip, and Dave Marotta. I've been playing forever yet would be more than happy to get together with one of those guys.
