Gretsch G220 or Epi Embassy Pro?

I've been watching the Epi Embassy thread for some time and I've put it in and out of a cart so many times, it's shameful.

Now Sweetwater is claiming a "new addition" with the Gretsch G2220 Junior Jet Bass II. I've been looking for a low cost beater (aka lower threshold stress over bumps and dings) with the old vibe thump, and the videos confirm that to my ears. Also I like the looks.

There have been threads on the Jet but most are dated around 2013 and 2014. Is this a new version/re-issue, or is it just new for Sweetwater?

Either one of the basses would fit the bill but some advice/experience on fit and finish of the Jet would be helpful.

Thanks

Embassy is great I bought one and LOVE it! HOWEVER, it has the sound of a 60s Gibson Thunderbird, so make sure that is the tone you want. It does NOT sound like a Fender P bass or a Hofner violin bass. More treble and a piano like tone is what it does have, with warm mids.

Thanks so much for this. Hands on facts trump videos any day and this is the info I am wishing to hear. I have a Hofner and thought the sound would be similar. Glad to hear otherwise. Thanks!
