GuitarLift (...but great for basses too)

Hey TB, I didn't know where to post this (maybe we need a dedicated ABG Forum? ;))

I sit (no should strap) while playing both EB and ABG and I always like the ABG high (I hold the bass with the lower bout on my right thigh.) SO, finally bit the bullet and got one of the smaller GuitarLift units to try. It costs alittle more than a premium Strap (and could easily be made DIY for about the third of the money) but for the ease of purchase and just 'stick it on'—it was worth a try for me.

Man I love it! Both for its simplicity and easy of mobility while playing. Feels secure while playing, can be tilted back while playing (another position I like while playing in higher positions), and doesn't require all the hardware of other supports.

Hope it holds up :roflmao:

Interesting. Would definitely be great for Steinberger style basses. I always set my strap to the same height that my bass sits on my lap naturally so I don't think it would be useful to me, but I can see how this would be good for someone who wears their basses higher on a strap.

Well, I do the same (I set the length to about the same as sitting/maybe an 1-2" higher than thigh—so the bass is always the same location sitting and standing)

this thing fully adjustable (and comes in multiple sizes/lengths) so the variations are well... endless ;)
I think what I like the best is that it can be tilted so you can adjust your neck angle to your preference.

Several Month Update:

Still love this thing —especially for ABG! but, on EB... YMMV

Just did a long day of studio reh, almost 10yrs sitting working thru charts with my 10lb G&L L2500 on my leg supported by the GuitarLift. The narrow pad really digs into your thigh. (Its about 3/4 the width of a standard EB body width)

While I definitely need to get into the practice of stretching and standing up more often, I may just use a strap for these long-period situations with EB. *shrug*

Interesting. Like that it works with the EB. After trying a bunch I settled on the Gitano and then similar Tenuto. That folding kind is probably more fussy to position than GuitarLift but it worked well and I liked being able to leave it on with the bass in a gigbag. On the other hand the GuitarLift looks rock solid.

Went back to a strap a couple of years ago during the time out and although I still have 3-4 supports somewhere haven't gone back to one...yet. Seeing this one has aroused my inner support geek curiosity.
