Guitars Built From Old Skateboard Decks

Hi folks. I wasn't sure if I should post this in Luthier's Corner or Misc. I decided to put it in Luthier's Corner because I thought the folks that build basses and other instruments would enjoy this.

This is a company I just found out about it, Prisma Guitars, that builds guitars out of old skateboard decks.

I know that they're not basses but I really liked the concept, and the finished look.

I'm impressed by this kid. Certainly on the high end, price wise, but he has a simple business model and nice clean designs. Very innovative with the old decks!

I agree, they are beautiful but pricey. The guy does live in the heart of San Francisco though. He needs to pay his rent somehow...

$3k is pretty on point for a premium hand built one of a kind guitar. Also, dude has to pay for his Festool gear somehow.

That is spectacular. I've seen pics of that bass before, but I didn't know it was made from decks.

I vacillate from being deeply inspired by Carl Thompson and his guys to be being depressingly intimated. Every time I look at photos of their stuff I find something new I hadn't realized or a construction detail I hadn't thought about. Every time.

Honestly, one of the coolest looking instruments I've ever seen. Looks like one of those giant jawbreakers that changes colors as you get toward the center.
