Quick birthday shout out to the living legend, influence, and distant mentor to so many of us.

Cheers, and UP THE IRONS!!!
Long-time fan and bassist in an Iron Maiden tribute band

\m/, :D ,\m/

Are you an Iron Maiden fan? If you like, share your first Iron Maiden experience, or even 'watershed' moment!

Mine: Hangin' with friends one night in 1988, and (along with who would be known today as 'The Big 4', plus quite a few more) was introduced to Iron Maiden; specifically, the "Powerslave" and "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" albums. VERY soon thereafter, a viewing of the "Live After Death" videocassette... within a very short time, saving whatever paper route money I could, I'd had all cassettes available up to that time (Iron Maiden, Killers, Maiden Japan, Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Live After Death, Somewhere In Time, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son).

...and here I am today to tell you about it...
:p

(...and to think, at the time, I was very much a late-comer into metal!)
Cheers, you guys!
:D

Running Free is the first song I ever learned.
The only time I’ve seen them live was at a small venue on the X Factor Tour. It was general admission so I was able to get in the second row (close enough to be anointed by Steves sweat as he thrashed his head).

Happy Birthday Arry!
Up The Irons!

I was very young. 14? I saw the video for Run to the Hills on the new channel, MTV. I'd watch all day just to see that video. I was stricken.

I saved my cash, wanted that record! In a frightful Ohio winter, against my mom's wishes, I walked to a K-Mart on a Sunday. I remember, because I had to wait til noon, cuz stores then were not 24hrs, and Sunday hours were limited.

I made the journey. In wind chill factors of -20 or so. I learned later that day was one of the coldest days on record. I dressed appropriately. I thot. Big coat, layers underneath. Two pair of socks. Hats aplenty. But, I forgot and only wore jeans. I got minor frostbite on my thighs. But that disc, that band, was worth it.

I saw them on 4 big tours after that. Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, Seventh Son and Fear of the Dark. But nuttin compares to that first disc with Bruce. His voice still my fave in the genre. I got grounded. I have scars. But it was worth it. :D

Happy Birthday Mr Steve Harris. If it hadn't been for you? I might've made somethin of my life. :roflmao:
