Allo all,

I have a Hartke 4x10 4200 Pro cabinet that has one blown, and 3 working drivers. It's my slave cabinet at our jam space. Still sounds good enough with 3 good and 1 buzzing speaker but would like to fix it on the cheap if I can. I don't really care about matching "cabinet acoustics" or other specifics like that. Just one that will fit in and work well enough without buzzing or breaking too easily. Don't care if it doesn't have aluminum cones. I bought the whole cabinet for $100, I'm not putting another $100 into it for the best speaker money can buy.

My questions are:

The speaker should be 8ohm, yes? The whole cabinet is 4 ohms.

The only specific detail I can think of that might matter SPL capability of the speaker. Is it *THAT* important or should I really not care"?

I'm assuming I need a 100 watt RMS speaker, as the whole cab is rated at 400 watts at 4 ohms. (100 per speaker).

I'm not rewiring anything in the cab, I just want to plug and play.

I'm currently considering this:

Amazon.com: MCM AUDIO SELECT 55-2972 WOOFER POLY CONE 10 INCH MCM 100W RMS 8OHM RUBBER SURROUND: Home Audio & Theater

Gets good reviews.

Firstly, I wouldn't bother with that speaker. Probably won't sound any better than your blown one.

Secondly, if your cab is 4 ohms, each speaker is either 4 or 16 ohms. It can't be 8 ohms. So you'll need to find out for sure before you order.

It's a 16 ohm speaker. Anything you would recommend?

I have the same cab, that I paid the same price, with the same problem. Did you get the Seismic Audio Driver? If you did, how's it working for ya? Also there was new 10" 16 ohms Faitals on EBay for a pretty low price.

I did. The speaker looked nice and seemed good quality when I got it out of the box. I installed it and it definitely helped the overall cab sound much better. When I still had the cab open, I tried my best to hear it as independently as possible from the other speakers and it sounded full and punchy FWIW.

Keep in mind that the Hartke drivers have 4 total posts, 2 on each which are for white/black and red/black, so the connections just kind of "slip onto" the posts and no soldering is needed. The Seismic driver has only 1 post for each polarity so you will have to solder them to the speaker, which is no biggie.

Now though, I have another blown Harkte speaker, which seems just to be from the cabinets use or age and nothing related to the new speaker. I should have just replaced them all at once, it would have been like having a whole new cabinet, and no mismatched look from the front. I'm going to buy 3 more and match them all up, but I'm gonna wait until they go back down to $30 instead of $45 cause i'm stubborn like that. I'll let you know how it sounds when I do.

Thanks, I appreciate you getting back on this, I'm pretty sure I have to do at least 2 , it's such a cool heavy cab, like to have it working properly

Yeah, I like that it looks bigger than a regular 4x10, and it so well made, it could probably hand other speakers even higher that 125 watts. Let me know what you do!

I contacted Seismic directly asking for a deal and he is gonna give me 3 additional drivers for $100 total.
I'm taking a small leap of faith here, but I think it's gonna work out. $130 for 4 quality drivers is a great deal and I hope this ends my cab problems once and for all.

You must of brought me some luck on this. Just found a guy on FB selling 2 10" 16ohm Hartke speakers for 35. Sent him a message, hope it works out. Shipping would be the deal breaker.

That would be a great deal. The drivers new from Hartke directly are $65. May be worth it if the speakers are old.

Even though it is only 25 watts difference, I'm paranoid the Quake speaker might be slightly making the other speakers work harder. And if 2 of the original 4 are now gone, then maybe they other ones aren't far behind...plus there is a lot of crud on mine. I can understand wanting to keep the drivers the same though in the original cab. I've ordered them, I'll let you know how the it comes out.
