Have you ever been listed on a website as a member of a band you never played with?

My drummer/keyboardist/vocalist and I, bassist/vocalist, were and still are listed on a website as members of a band we never played with.

Here is what is going on.

Four years ago, my band of 12-1/2 years broke up. A very good guitarist/vocalist friend of mine called me immediately to see if I wanted to start a band with him to which I said sure. We rehearsed for four months and had gigs lined up and we had to fire the drummer/vocalist. The guitarist listed the drummer and me on a website as members of his last band to which I asked him to remove us since we were never in that band.

After we fired the drummer, I lined up the drummer/keyboardist/vocalist who plays with me now to put a new band (with a new name) together with that guitarist. After three rehearsals, the guitarist bailed on us. I, then, saw he had us listed on a website as members of his band which we never were. People started to ask us about being in his band. I told him about it and he removed our names but everybody he would rehearse with after then would end up on his website as members even if they never played a gig. This went on for a couple years.

Last year, he asked if he could "try out" with us again since we were established with a good band and good gigs and we needed a guitarist. We told him he could try out and he would have to learn our songs and we would learn some of his songs as well. He showed up at the first practice and we went through some songs we all somewhat knew. I gave him a list of our songs to learn and he came to the next practice without learning our songs and expected us to play all of his songs. He bailed on us again.

Here is where it gets weird. It's been ten months now and he put our names as members on his website under a different band name since last May. I have asked him again about taking us off. Lots of people have been viewing his website and many people have asked us about it and think we are in his band but know we have our own band. We have never been in his band nor have we ever played a gig with him.

He has not even played a gig with any band for almost 6-1/2 years. It's as if he wants to give people the illusion that he still is playing and has a band with well known regional musicians working with him.

Bonus! :D
Last year one of my album credits was attributed and linked back to a rapper named "Virginia Slimm" by the distributer. Nobody seemed to notice. He seems like a cool guy. they used his promo photo. As the company had previously leaked my personal info which they were asked not to do, I never made the correction. Everybody's gonna be ok!

I don't know wether to feel sorry for his delusional mind or to congratulate him on his web hosting skills :cautious: How the he11 is he getting so much traffic to his website??

I don't know who all is viewing his web page; but, I would think after a while people (especially other musicians) would figure out that he does not have a band and we are not in it. His brother is a fantastic guitarist/vocalist in a well known band and he told us that he thinks that is just plain weird and there is something wrong with him.

Any exposure is good exposure. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's hurting your other bands. Lots of musicians list everyone they touched a guitar near as a bandmate. I think it's cheesy but confronting it would probably just sour a situation that seems kind of harmless... He's obviously some kind of fan.

Yup, that dude is a fruit cake

I auditioned for a band once. We agreed to sleep on it and talk the next day. Before I called I went to their website and they had me listed a the bassist. I had already decided that I wasn't interested.
I had the opposite problem. I'm the third bassist for the originals band I'm in. I went to their Facebook page and they had both of my predecessors listed in different sections as their bassist. Then my husband went there and complained that I wasn't listed, so they added me... in another section, which meant they now had three different bassists listed. I finally posted on the page itself asking them to figure out who their bass player is.

He has not even come to see our band play at any gigs in the four years that we have existed. We even played at a fire company festival gig in his hometown a few blocks from his house that he could have walked to see us and he never showed up.

I’m still on the website for a horn funk band that I left in 2011.

But I joined the band again in 2017, so it’s no longer weird.

Not exactly...but I did have a drummer contact me for a band I wasn't a part of. Very strange guy, I told him I wasn't interested in playing anymore and would be going on hiatus for a while. He got puffy with me and said "I see how it is, you already got an ad up looking for another drummer just give the other guy a heads up if you plan to let him go too". I had no idea what he was talking about. I had no ads up, glad I never jammed with him.
