Have you ever been listed on a website as a member of a band you never played with?
My drummer/keyboardist/vocalist and I, bassist/vocalist, were and still are listed on a website as members of a band we never played with.
Here is what is going on.
Four years ago, my band of 12-1/2 years broke up. A very good guitarist/vocalist friend of mine called me immediately to see if I wanted to start a band with him to which I said sure. We rehearsed for four months and had gigs lined up and we had to fire the drummer/vocalist. The guitarist listed the drummer and me on a website as members of his last band to which I asked him to remove us since we were never in that band.
After we fired the drummer, I lined up the drummer/keyboardist/vocalist who plays with me now to put a new band (with a new name) together with that guitarist. After three rehearsals, the guitarist bailed on us. I, then, saw he had us listed on a website as members of his band which we never were. People started to ask us about being in his band. I told him about it and he removed our names but everybody he would rehearse with after then would end up on his website as members even if they never played a gig. This went on for a couple years.
Last year, he asked if he could "try out" with us again since we were established with a good band and good gigs and we needed a guitarist. We told him he could try out and he would have to learn our songs and we would learn some of his songs as well. He showed up at the first practice and we went through some songs we all somewhat knew. I gave him a list of our songs to learn and he came to the next practice without learning our songs and expected us to play all of his songs. He bailed on us again.
Here is where it gets weird. It's been ten months now and he put our names as members on his website under a different band name since last May. I have asked him again about taking us off. Lots of people have been viewing his website and many people have asked us about it and think we are in his band but know we have our own band. We have never been in his band nor have we ever played a gig with him.
He has not even played a gig with any band for almost 6-1/2 years. It's as if he wants to give people the illusion that he still is playing and has a band with well known regional musicians working with him.
