Have you ever had(or at least witnessed)a “Tap” moment?

A few weeks ago was the 40th anniversary of the release of the movie, and even though I’ve watched it a billion times, as an edited version popped up on IFC, I plunked down once again. There was nothing else going on anyway, and even though it’s cringingly dated for the most part, there’s still plenty of “they’ll do it everytime” cliche parodies that remain amusing.

I’ve long wondered about what point it would be when a younger audience would find that movie incomprehensible, as that Rock world doesn’t really exist anymore in terms of current, contemporary bands. But on the other hand, there will always be significant others of members meddling to some extent in band business, clueless lead guitarists, band arguments, etc, etc. Satire always stems from painful truth(yeah, OK, Jeanine was Yoko, I get it), and there were also layers of subtlety(I was in record wholesale/retail for over 25 years, I swear I knew Paul Shaffer’s promo guy/label rep, plus Fran Drescher’s Bobbi Flekman).

But as quite a bit of these human foibles still exist(like studio meltdowns, brat behavior, and members ragequitting), not only in the “bigtime”, but on the local level, what have you experienced, or maybe even generated yourself? Have you had a “OMG, it’s come to this” moment with some of your favorite artists? If you feel comfortable with naming names, please do dish the dirt, but spare us any cucumber stories. Well, actually…go ahead.

The two scenes that I distinctly remember thinking "OMG! Been There, Done That!" the first time I saw the movie were: when they couldn't find the stage from the dressing room, and when their warmup act was a puppet show.

I've never had a puppet show as an opener. But we were surprised when we saw this marquee at a gig once.

Hopefully won't get too scolded for posting that. We were not informed of this "double header" when we agreed to the gig.

This just reminded me of a story one of my band mates told me about a local band years ago.
I guess one of the guitarists always had crappy gear that was always breaking down or making noise all night and he would never get it fixed. Crackling cables, amps failing, and the like. One night, in the middle of a gig, the guy lost his cool on the guy when his cables kept failing. He cussed him out on stage, as well as other members of the band as he rage quit right there. He packed his gear up while they were still playing, took it to his car, then went back in and sat at the bar, started drinking and heckled the band all night.
