Headphone purchase

Hello I am going to be starting school at an recording arts institute and i need to get some decent headphones around 300 dollars any suggestions would help me out cause I cant have built in bass boost or an eq. And be over the ear I like the sennheiser other kinds that were brought to my attention have been akg and audio technica but I'm not sure.

I use the AKG Studio K240 and like them a lot. I do 95% of my playing/practicing into my computer using them and they sound great. Not sure they can be beat for the price...

Grado Labs makes an excellent product. I bought a pair on the recommendation from a pro engineer friend of mine. He does this for a living and can afford much more expensive HP's but uses the Grado's. For mixing they are fantastic. What you hear is what you get. No bass boost/color at all.
