Help! I heard a quiet 'pop' and now my P bass buzzes

Was playing my P Bass, heard a fairly faint 'pop', and now the bass has a fairly bad hum/buzz. Gets worse when I remove my hands from the bass, and gets better when I touch the bridge/volume pot. Seems like a grounding issue perhaps? I opened it up to check all the solder connections were still solid, and they are. Buzz gets worse when I turn up the tone pot, almost completely goes away when I have the tone control off. Bad pot? Or grounding issue?

+1 to checking your cable. I would also suggest checking the ground wire coming from the bridge, ensure it is making good contact. I like to use a strip of copper (or aluminum) tape under the bridge. Does anything else stop the hum aside from touching the bridge or volume pot?
