Hey peoples!
I have a Squier Pro Tone V (Which I believe has Mighty Mites in it?), that I'd like to upgrade the pickups in. I posted in another thread that my plan is to wire it up with concentric Vol/Vol, a high pass and a low pass. I'm currently trying to decide on which pickups I want though.
To describe the tone I'm looking for in words it'd be round, warm, deep, and clear. I want lots of depth and "oomph", but still have definition both in the lows and highs. (For the low definition I mean I want to really HEAR a clear difference when going from the low B to a C. For the high definition I want warm, with no metallic sounds, but still a nice clear note that doesn't "blend" into the others as I play up the fretboard). I really don't particularly care for "growl". I use Tapewounds exclusively (both for the feel, and to remove the metalic sound of most strings).
Here's some tones I really like:
Both of those still have a tad too much metallic sound to them. Crossfire is definitely less so, but still just a touch too much. I feel like I almost want a sub-octave piano sound if the piano had tapewounds lol.
When this guy uses both pickups that's really close. That, with tapewounds to remove the metallic sound, and just a touch more clarity on the lows (without losing the depth) would be perfect. The problem is, that's an active setup, and I need passive.
So...what're y'alls thoughts?
