Hello,
Many months ago I built a Hjart Müller overdrive kit, dead upon completion. I pulled it out today to find I had forgotten one wire. Soldered the last wire and Eureka, sound. But something is off. Before I bore you with the details I have one starting question.
When measuring the resistance of a potentiometer, that is soldered to a PCB, part of a circuit, (with the power off of course) Should it read close to it's assigned value, or is it possible that the components it's connected to will alter the resistance?
The 500K pot (controlling the Drive) reads 465K when closed, 230K when opened up.
The 250K pot (controlling the volume) reads 123K, open or closed.
The two 100K pots (blend and tone) read 100K, open or closed.
The symptoms are as follows. Everything functions as it should, with two exceptions.
The overall volume is low. With volume and gain maxed, it's not quite reaching unity gain. Additionally, the mix responds oddly. As you pan from full wet signal to add in some of the dry, the wet signal lowers very quickly and the dry is slow in coming up. So, as you blend in some dry from full wet, the level drops notably. Blend to fully dry sounds normal, but still not blindingly loud, as I would expect with the volume maxed.
I'm wondering if this is due to a faulty 250K volume pot. I feel confident this is not how this pedal is supposed to respond.
I appreciate your thoughts and insights.
