Help with pot value.

Higher value pots will preserve more treble - lower values will let some treble bleed to ground. If you like the tone of the pickups wired straight to the jack you should use higher value pots. 500k is the highest typically used for basses but there's nothing stopping you from using 1M pots, which are usually available in product lines aimed at guitars and basses.

Another option might be to wire the bass up “normally” with volume(s) and tone(s) and add a push pull switch to bypass the controls and go straight to the output jack.
Thanks for that.

I'm thinking just volume, volume, no tone. I want to be able to just blend the two pickups. That's my tone control, blending the pickups :)

So I'm looking for the best value in pots that won't suck too much treble, like going direct.

I’ve run my PU’s straight to the jack for years. It’s wired stereo with tapped PU’s
Half vol/off/full vol switches for each PU.

No pickup blending though?
No, between the stereo wiring(two amps) and the tapped PU’s lots if volume settings. I haven’t felt or wanted a blend control. Plus depending where and how I play on the neck changes a lot.
But can see why most would.

my switch settings...

neck Pu-full volume
Bridge Pu- off

neck Pu-half volume
Bridge Pu- off

etc...
I’ve never counted the total settings for the switches...11 maybe.. 12 being all off. I dunno.

Cool!
I like to blend though, old bass not the one in question...

Vol, vol, vol, phase switches for P and J

Restoring a bass with soap bar humbuckers. Wired the pickups direct to the guitar cord to make sure they worked, they did and I liked the sound.

The question, what value of potentiometer do I need to reproduce this effect, 500 ohm or 1000 ohm or?

TIA!
Liking the extra highend eh? 1 meg'll work fine.

normally 500k ohm pots are used with humbuckers ... from what you are saying you might like 1000k ohm pots ... or try a 500k ohm volume and a 1000k ohm tone pot
