Hercules Guitar Stands Safe For Nitro?

My local music store, which carries a goodly number of Taylor acoustics and Fender electrics, displays them all on Hercules hangers. I have just hung my whole collection on these. I would assume the material is similar to their stands.

I had a Hercules double stand. In a short period, both of the mechanism failed and were seriously out of alignment. Tracking down any customer service from them was a futile exercise. Luckily, GC took them back and I replace with a couple of Ultimate 100s, a much better stand.

I too have the Hercules double stand. I used it for about 200 gigs so far without fail.

I hang my bass on one side and one of my guitarist hangs his guitar on the other side.

I don't know if it is safe for nitro. Wouldn't see why not.

Contact Hercules?

I have a K&M Guardian stand that's guaranteed safe for nitro. The parts in contact with the basses are made of transparent plastic.
I like my nitro pristine :D

i've got a couple Hercules stands, and a couple sadowsky basses with satin nitro on their necks. haven't noticed any marking on the necks from the stands. but you could easily drape a small piece of cloth over the yoke of the stand, just to make sure.

My bass has a glossy nitro finish and I got a Hercules stand for it, after I had confirmed the compatibility of the nitro finish with the synthetic rubber cushions on the yoke. I checked with the manufacturer and did research on the web.

To be safe though, I did cut up an old wool sock and that covers the yoke. The cushions on the legs of the stand do contact the nitro finish on the back bottom of my bass.

I've had this setup for about a year and I've had no problems whatsoever.

Old thread, I know, but I want to make sure that everyone knows that in the USA, Hercules Stands have a lifetime warranty. Other manufacturers with a "lifetime" warranty cap it at 7 years.
If your stand fails due to a manufacturing defect (like what was described in the OP) contact us at [email protected]. I'm sorry if you've had trouble contacting us in the past.

I have had my Hercules 5 space rack/stand for a few years now and even though the stand is rated as safe for all finishes including nitro, I have read enough about foam, vinyl and rubber etc leeching into guitar paint finishes and ruining them, so I decided to opt on the side of caution. I bought a heap of felt to cut into 10 pieces and velcro around the foam on the base of the stand where the guitars sit on the foam bottom. You can never be too careful when dealing with the finish on your bass guitar wether it be Nitro or Poly finished.

We go through a significant amount of testing to make sure our "SFF" (Specially Formulated Foam) is safe for all finishes. I read something in another thread that made a lot of sense to me. New guitars are shipped before a nitro finish is fully cured or dry which can take 6 months or so. That beautiful smell when you open up a new Les Paul case for the first time is the fumes from a not-quite-dry nitro smell. That being said, just about anything that rests on a relatively new nitro finish can mar it in some way. I was playing my new Les Paul Custom while wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt. Guess who's Les Paul has soaked in the dye from the shirt? This same 2007 Les Paul has been sitting on a Hercules AGS yoke just about every day for the past couple of years with no problems.
The same goes for a poly finish, but the dry-time for poly is much shorter.

I like to think of it like this. A nitro finish is like the chocolate coating that goes on an ice cream cone. It will eventually harden, but it takes some time. The poly finish is the candy coating on a Skittle or m&m. Not indestructible, but certainly a lot harder than that chocolate shell on the soft-serve cone.

I'm not a dummy when it comes to finishes, but I don't consider myself the world's foremost expert either. So, you know, grain of salt.
