Recently someone gave me, a Carvin BR210 cab, like I said with the old Rat Fur on it like mint condition. I have used other 210 cabs with my Markbass Jeff Berlin combo, and it sound it pretty good. But this cab does not. I cannot find much on it, so I guess what I am asking. Is it ported are what ever well, and is it worth reloading different speakers in. I don't really care much if it has a horn are tweeter. If you did reload it what speakers would you suggest. Are would you just put the cab on Craigslist.

First you will need to be more descriptive about what you don't like about how this cab sounds.

In general just swapping out speakers, no matter how good they are, has a much better chance of sounding worse than it is already. Cabs are designed for the speakers that will be used in them. There are a lot of factors to consider.

That being said, if someone here has swapped speakers for something else and liked how it worked then you have a path to follow. But do not vary from what they used. And remember, what sounds good to someone else may not sound good to you.

Someone recently posted here about a successful speaker swap in a Carvin BRX 2x10. But that is a much different cab than the BR.

How much do you want for the carvin?

Love your avatar btw.

I don't know yet haven't decided if I will let go of it yet. I am also a guitar player so l may take the horn out. And use it as a 210 cab for guitar. Take all the bass stuff out. For guitar I use a Fender AMS telecaster, and a Rivera Clubster Royale 112. Might get me a little tube head for it.

Why would you remove the horn for guitar?
I don't know what "take all the bass stuff out" means.

Honestly, at this point, I am beginning to think you might be in over your head a bit on this project.
I might recommend that you find some books or other information about designing cabs before you butcher what may be a perfectly good cab, for guitar at least if you don't like it for bass.

Why did he give it to you? It might already be a failed attempt at a speaker swap.
Check if they are Carvin speakers.
They may be out of phase. Check this with a 9volt battery, put it on the end of the phone jack and see what direction the speakers move. + to tip and - on the sleeve.
Just for a few seconds to see what direction they move. They should move the same way.

Oh the cab sounds sterile has know life , like your pounding mud. We hooked a Aguilar 210 to it sound pretty good. Just trying to get buy without spending to much. I live on retirement pay which ain't much
There is a place on TB that has commonly used terms for describing audio.
Hopefully someone can help us to find that. It will be helpful in describing the sound.

Sterile and "know (sic) life" sounds like the cab has a fairly flat frequency response.
When you like other cabs and then switch to the Carvin, are you re-adjusting the amp EQ?
If not, you are not really giving the cab a fair shake.

I understand about retirement pay.
This is all the more reason that you don't want to make expensive mistakes.
With little knowledge of how cabs and speakers interact, "expensive mistakes you will make, yes, hmm?"
Or in another Star Wars reference and as an homage to your avatar... "It's a TRAP!

What I meant was I have eq the amp several different ways. The cab sounds best to my ears, with the High Freq, attenuation turn to 0. But is lacking something , how the cab is design and all that I do not know. Honest I guess I am not a smart man when it comes to that.. And I would rather use it as a guitar cab then sell it for nothing. And I have used many different guitar cabinets. None had tweeters are horns.. This why I asked here cannot find much on how, the cab was built. All I could find it was built strong. If it's not worth putting money into by loading other speakers in it, I don't want to waste my time are money. So that's why I am here. So forgive me of my ignorance.

And I would rather use it as a guitar cab then sell it for nothing.
Check that the speakers are moving together as described in post #6, or if the speakers may have already been swapped, and the sound now is the results of not matching speakers with the cabinet.
If you still do not like it for bass, use it as a guitar cab and see how it goes.
At least open it to read the speakers so you can know what the ohms rating is on your speakers so you do not drop below your amps rating.

Nah - I'd sell it and use the funds to get the cab you KNOW will sound good. The simple fact is that many folks aren't wild about how Carvin gear sounds.

I had one for several years. Most of the time I used it as a personal bass monitor up front with me next to my vocal wedge. FOH did the heavy lifting. It served its purpose well, but I wasn't in love with the sound, but I didn't realize how much until I came across an Ampeg 210 wedge for a great price while playing a fill in gig in Portland. I brought it home and A/B'd the two with the same amp and wow, what a difference. The Carvin was anemic and slightly muffled and really uninspiring compared to the Ampeg. Maybe the Carvin's speakers were worn and tired, but the difference was especially noticeable when I used the Ampeg as a backline cab carrying most of the bass. Way better. I sold the Carvin for $100 more than I bought for.

I check it out it has the Carvin PS 10s and it is a 8ohms cab all stock. Trevcda, described it real well the way it sounds. Probably for what I could by new good raw speakers for, I could by a used good cab on Craigslist maybe. Wish I had not sold my Aguilar 210 , but sold my big rig. And went with Markbass.
