Hi everyone,
I'm Andi, 49 years young, and living near Munich, Germany.
I have been using Talkbass as a resource for a while now, and figured it is about time I become an active member.
I have played bass for 32 years now - electric 4,5, and 6 strings, fretless, double bass... in various settings, some commercially fairly successful - others not... in fact, most of them not...
Currently playing in a Big Band, a Funk & Soul cover band, and my main project "Compared To The Universe" (www.comparedtotheuniverse.com - I hope it is ok to post the link here... especially since the bassist in the videos is my predecessor...).
Equipment-wise, I consider myself a geek (as many members of the German-language Bassic-forum and a few members of Basschat will confirm). According to my bass-counter (aka my wife), I own far too many basses - according to myself, I just need one more... I have a number of beauties here: a custom De Gier Bebop 5, a Fender CS Sean Hurley Precision, a Duesenberg Triton, a Stingray Old Smoothie, a Fender Flea Jazz, a Fodera Standard Monarch 4 FL and a custom Emperor 5, and 2 basses made by my friend Knut Reiter of "K Bass" in Germany: a Sherwood Green J, and a Seafoam Green PJ, both with Rio Rosewood boards, and a Squier VI. I am listing these as maybe someone is interested in learning especially about the European-made basses... currently looking for a CS Bass VI and lusting for one of the 30th Anniversary Rays.
In terms of amplification, my main weapon is an Ampeg SVT VR through an Ampeg 610... I also have a B-15N Heritage, a Marusczyk Barabass combo, Ampeg PF350 (backup!), a Glockenklang Steamhammer through a 112 and a 115 - but currently there is some "dynamic" in my amp setup, so this may change soon...
I like all kinds of Jazz, big time into Snarky Puppy and active member in the "Vulfpack" group on Facebook. But being a child of the 80s, rock is also still a big thing for me...
