Higher action required for Trubass 88 to avoid fret buzz?

Hi

Have just tried Rotosound Trubass on one of my basses, I was really pleased to find that this bass that is usually a little out with intonation is now strangely pretty much bang on however I have found that there is fret buzz at 12th and 15th fret of the A and D string that is not there with other strings, is a little annoying but I can live with it as I rarely go that high on the neck.

Have tightened the truss rod but has made no real difference, I remember reading somewhere ages ago about fret buzz with Rotosound Trubass , does anyone here have this issues with these strings and have to raise their action to resolve this?
My action is a hair above 2mm on the E string and slightly under 2mm on the G, I may raise the action slightly to counter the buzz but really hoping I dont have to raise it too much

DSCN0349.JPG I have them on my MIK Rogue VB-100; no problem with them whatsoever. However... when the bass' neck is straight as possible, all the frets are level, too. Sounds like that might not be the case with your bass...:eyebrow:

For buzz high up the neck, you need to raise the saddles, tightening the truss rod will make buzz slightly worse especially for lower frets.

Having buzz with a different set of strings is not a string issue, it's a setup issue, unless a set of strings is identical to before you always need to adjust the setup (truss rod, saddle height and saddle intonation) even if it's a different brand of the same gauge. These nylonwounds are larger gauge to compensate for lower density, but may be lower tension than your previous strings, so a higher action is necessary.

Or maybe nylon tape is not as consistent as metal windings.
The reason I tightened is that usually buzz on the upper frets means there is too much neck relief
Sort of, neck relief alters the balance of low-fret buzz against high-fret buzz, but straightening a neck creates more buzz everywhere so you still need to raise the saddles as well.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will try loosening the truss rod slightly, I suspect that the Trubass are lower tension than the previous strings and the fact that the action was about 0.3mm lower after the string change suggests the same
