Hipshot bass extender and small gauge strings (TI jazz rounds)

Forgive me if this has been asked, I did a search and came up empty. I recently installed a Hipshot bass extender on my P bass and I am loving it so far, it works just as described. However I have seen a lot of love for the TI jazz rounds on this forum and elsewhere, I am thinking about getting a set for my p bass. but I am worried that the low tension that everyone talks about the Hipshot wont work properly because the tension may be to low for the tuning peg to rotate when activated. Has anyone use the TI jazz rounds and a Hipshot D tuner with success? or have you experienced problems with the low tension. Thanks in advance.

Shouldn’t be a problem. The Dtuner should rotate freely to the stop; if not, it’s not functioning as designed. If it binds st all you’ll not achieve the true pitch drop defeating its purpose from the outset. I’m not sure how much lower tension TIs are but there’s still going to be plenty of pounds of pull there to move a smoothly operation by Dtuner.

Chromes tension (.40 - .95):

G 42.1 lbs
D 50.6 lbs
A 40.8 lbs
E 43 lbs
B 35.9 lbs

TI flats tension:

G 37.03 lbs
D 37.47 lbs
A 31.30 lbs
E 34.39 lbs
B 34.83 lbs

The TIs are still significantly lower than the lightest gauge Chromes on paper. Feel-wise, the Chromes feel tighter to me also.

I threw the B in for good measure.

The TI strings are still putting 30 pounds of tension or so on each string. Are you concerned that 30 pounds of force would not be enough to cause the D-Tuner to rotate?
